Oliver Stone Sets Sights on ‘Bush’
Written by Todd on January 21, 2008 – 9:42 am -
With the continuing WGA strike freezing production of his Vietnam-era (gasp!) film, Pinkville, Oliver Stone is ready to begin filming Bush, a biopic “focusing on the life and presidency of George W. Bush”. The film, which stars Josh Brolin as Bush, will be produced by long-time Stone collaborator, Moritz Borman. Variety reports:
Borman said Weiser’s script was completed before the WGA strike and was ready to shoot and that many of Stone’s “Pinkville” crew jumped right into “Bush.” If financing materializes quickly enough, the film could start production by April and could be in theaters for the election or the inauguration…”It’s a behind-the-scenes approach, similar to ‘Nixon,’ to give a sense of what it’s like to be in his skin,” Stone told Daily Variety. “But if ‘Nixon’ was a symphony, this is more like a chamber piece, and not as dark in tone. People have turned my political ideas into a cliche, but that is superficial. I’m a dramatist who is interested in people, and I have empathy for Bush as a human being, much the same as I did for Castro, Nixon, Jim Morrison, Jim Garrison and Alexander the Great.”
Awesome. Oliver Stone’s politics are as subtle as date rape, so this should be good. I can’t wait to see this. Especially the part when George W. Bush and the FBI assassinate President Kennedy so they can use his brain to power a spaceship to mine Mars for oil. Or the part when Bush sends Bigfoot and the Republic’s clone army to blow up the Twin Towers. You know, just like it actually happened.

Scarlett Johansson To Play Courtney Love?
Written by Todd on January 14, 2008 – 8:08 am -
Courtney Love has reportedly asked Scarlett Johannson and Ryan Gosling to star in the upcoming Kurt Cobain biopic, Heavier Than Heaven. Love serves as the film’s executive producer, which will be based on the 2001 autobiography of the same name.
A close friend says: “Kirsten Dunst was rumoured to be in the frame, but Courtney really admires Scarlett and has already sent the contract out for her to sign. Courtney even copied Scarlett’s sleek blonde movie look when she was in London for the Fashion Rocks party last year. “This is a labour of love for Courtney and she is putting her heart and soul into making it an accurate, credible glimpse of her life with Kurt.” And Courtney has also lined up Oscar-nominated Ryan Gosling to play husband Kurt. Her friend adds: “She wants the best actors to portray them - she will be on set all the time giving Scarlett and Ryan advice on what it was like being one part of the most notorious couples since Sid and Nancy. It will be explosive.”
Somebody should probably raise their hand and point out that Scarlett Johansson is one of the hottest pieces of ass in Hollywood and that Courtney Love is gross. The only way Scarlett Johansson could play Courtney Love is if she somehow managed to teleport with a fly. I mean, I’ve read Heavier Than Heaven, and I must have missed the part where Courtney Love’s incident in the lab exposes her to gamma radiation and turns her into a crack whore.

Jim Carrey Loves Ewan McGregor
Written by Todd on December 18, 2007 – 9:46 am -Ewan McGregor and Jim Carrey will play Texas prison cellmates who fall in love with each other in the upcoming dark comedy, I Love You Phillip Morris. Glenn Ficarra and John Requa (Bad Santa) wrote the script based on a book by Houston Chronicle crime reporter Steve McVicker. Variety reports:
Carrey signed earlier in the fall to star in the fact-based tale as Steven Russell, a married father whose conman ways introduced him to the Texas prison system. There, he fell in love with cellmate Phillip Morris. His love for Morris motivated his escape from prisons four times, once by using a green pen and bucket of water to change his prison outfit into what appeared to be surgical scrubs, another time by faking his death from AIDS and signing his own death certificate. Morris eventually got out, but Russell’s escapades got him a 144-year sentence.
Boy, I’m glad they said “comedy” because for a minute there I thought this was going to be about dude prison sex. And dude prison sex isn’t cool. You know, from what I’ve heard. I guess there could be some advantages. Like talking about sports afterwards. New England Patriots all the way this year? Your thoughts?
